Books into Movies!

Hi there!

I always try to read the book before I see a movie. More often than not I am disappointed in the film version. I remember one film, called The Lawnmower Man that was supposedly based on a short story of the same name by Stephen King. The film maker took so many liberties with it that it was hardly recognizable from the original story.

Do you think the film versions of novels and short stories enhance or detract from the original story?

What are some movies you have seen that stayed true to the original story?

Is it necessary for film makers to take some creative license with the original story in order to make the film more interesting?
